Street View trike competition university finalists

Last month we asked you to nominate your campus to be photographed for Street View on Google Maps. We were inundated with more than 25,000 suggestions across all categories, and university campuses made up 44% of all suggestions! We’ve narrowed the top suggested locations to a few finalists and there is now just one week left in the voting period. Cast your vote for your favorite place within each category to tell us which locations you’d most like to see on Google Maps. The university finalists are: Arizona State University Michigan State University Princeton University Rochester Institute of Technology Stanford University Visit www.google.com/trike to vote and see the other finalists! You can vote as many times as you like until the deadline at 11:59pm PST on Monday, November 30th. We’ll then work on getting all the winners into Google Maps, and of course we’ll work closely with the relevant organizations to collect images of any privately-owned locations. If voting for Street View trike finalists gets you excited about how much you love Google Maps, be sure to check out our new Google Maps tips for life to help you save time, look smart, and manage your travels efficiently. Improvements to Picasa Web Albums make sharing your summer photos a breeze

Summer’s here. Chances are, you’re already packing your bags for destinations a bit more scenic and exciting than the lecture-hall circuit. A couple tips for your summer travels: (1) Don’t forget your camera, and (2) while you’re on the road, share your photos using Picasa Web Albums . That way, your friends and family will see your pictures at their impressive best — viewing stunning, high-resolution images that can scale to a full 1600 pixels. Now, usually, when a photo site displays big, high-quality pictures, you have to suffer an annoying trade-off in speed. But last week, the Picasa Web Albums team released a major tune-up, one that makes viewing even super-sized images downright snappy. There’s no better way to understand the difference in quality, enjoyment, and speed than to see it for yourself. Maximize your browser window, then check out this album (better yet, look at it in slideshow mode ). Press down on your right or left arrow keys to page through the photos — with a decent broadband connection, you can flip through the entire album at a pretty good clip. Both Picasa software and Picasa Web Albums are available for free — so give ‘em a spin this summer! Posted by Jason Cook, Product Marketing Manager

eBay’s April Fools?

Please, don’t ask me why I’m posting this at 3 am in the morning but…I was studying at 2 am today and I ended up distracting myself and checking my email. eBay sent me the following message: Hi asa-2008, Congratulations! You’ve been selected to participate in a new rewards program called eBay Bucks. We’re only inviting a randomly selected group of eBay shoppers to join as we continue to develop the program. It’s fast, easy, and free. Just sign up, and you’ll be on your way to earning 2% back on all your qualifying eBay purchases.* You’ll rack up eBay Bucks whenever you shop on eBay and pay with PayPal. Every three months, you’ll get a certificate to spend on eBay. See how eBay Bucks works. Take the video tutorial . Hurry, participation is limited, so sign up now. Start earning on April 1. At first I thought it was a legitimate email (It is officially from eBay) So, after a few clicks, I applied for the program. I am not very sure if it is a joke, or a mistake – the 0% ? If it was a joke, it was not very funny, and if it is real then it is just a mistake at the wrong day and time. The email said 2% One thing in question is, it says the beta starts April 1st (..today) and a search on google would indicate that eBay Bucks has existed for quite a while now! What do you think?

Iraq Journalist Jailed for Throwing Shoes at Mr. Bush

Did you know in Iraq, throwing shoes at someone is a sign of great displeasure or a way to show great disrespect towards a person? I didn’t know about it either until I saw Muntazer al-Zaidi (an Iraqi journalist) throw his shoes at former President, George Bush. I also didn’t know Mr. Bush had such a quick reflexes, being able to dodge those shoes.
