YouTube EDU goes international – a global classroom for all

Universities from the Europe and Israel have now joined YouTube EDU . The site now provides over 45,000 videos from over 20 top universities in nine countries with academic lectures, public talks and college life from universities including Cambridge University , The Open University, (UK), INSEAD , (France), Bocconi University (Italy), Open University of Catalonia , (Spain) University of Gronigen (The Netherlands), Moscow State University (Russia) – in addition to the 200 US universities already on the site. The international version now includes a drop-down menu to filter content based on language of choice. For example, select French and find content from HEC in Paris and also the French-Canadian University of Montreal , or set to ‘All’ to browse videos in all languages. The Directory also enables subjects to be browsed – e.g. select ‘Business’, ‘Engineering’ or ‘Literature’ to see content available. Although this feature is currently only available for English at the moment, we are looking to roll-out to languages as more universities join. Now, go learn something! Using Google Sites for school projects

Have you ever had a hard time keeping track of a big group project? Do you ever wish you could find a way to promote a competition or school event? Want to get more attention for your student group or club? In case you haven’t met yet, please allow us to introduce you to Google Sites. Google Sites are a great tool for students – for example, as a way to work with others to collaborate on a group project. You can embed a calendar to keep track of deadlines; or a Google spreadsheet to keep track of your research. When it comes time to turn in your project, you can even include videos or slide shows right in your site. If you want to promote a school event like a class election, you can create a site with videos and information about all of the candidates and even embed a Google form so students can vote or send feedback. Here’s an example site for a Ski Club , to give you an idea of what’s possible. To see how some students are using Google Sites in the classroom, check out our new Sites for Teachers page. Rapping about Google Docs and Sites

Happy Friday! As you might recall, we were posting weekly Apps Student stories for a while, and now we’re finally back from our hiatus. Except this week we won’t be posting a video, but instead we feel inclined to share this incredible rap from a student about Google Docs and Sites that we just can’t stop listening to. So take a listen . We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. You can see also watch videos on our playlist from students talking about how they’re using Google Apps on campus. And if you have your own story (or rap) to share – we’re all ears. Posted by Miriam Schneider, Google Apps marketing

Create your Google profile

When people search for your name on Google, do they find you? A couple weeks ago, we announced that we now show Google profile results at the bottom of U.S. name-query search pages. This gives you more control over how you appear when people search for you. Your Google profile can include online photos, links to your blog or other online profiles, and ways for people to contact you — and you can restrict contact information like your address and phone number to only the people and groups you choose. Curious how this will look for a student like you? Check out a sample student profile . For more information on the Google profile, check out the blog posts on the Google Social Web blog and Gmail blog . Don’t have a profile yet? Go to www.google.com/profiles to get started. Was Jon Stewart too harsh on Cramer? Not really.

(Click Here To Skip To The Videos) StudentWindow Streams the Comedy Central Channel Live Here “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart give a lashing to CNBC’s Jim Cramer over how he and the business network have covered the collapsing economy. Jon Stewart gave CNBC’s Mad Money host Jim Cramer a “harsh” interview. Stewart criticized CNBC for their misguidance and their false enthusiasm. He has been very harsh lately as you can see from this video I posted last week. I am glad Stewart took a serious turn to address CNBC’s “mistakes” but what I think is unfortunate is the fact that Cramer had to take all the hits – He had to be the face of CNBC. On another note, The The White House’s chief spokesman on Friday said he enjoyed watching the show. Cramer’s Thursday appearance on Stewart’s Comedy Central program garnered buzz that carried all the way to the White House briefing room. “Press secretary Robert Gibbs said he had spoken with President Barack Obama on Thursday about watching the Stewart-Cramer showdown. “I forgot to e-mail and remind him that it was on, so I don’t know if he’s seen it,” Gibbs said when asked by a reporter Friday. “I enjoyed it thoroughly.” The spokesman added: “Despite, even as Mr. Stewart said, that it may have been uncomfortable to conduct and uncomfortable to watch, I thought it was — I thought somebody asked a lot of tough questions.” Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
